Glaucoma Monitoring Scheme
Glaucoma is the second largest cause of sight loss in the United Kingdom. In most cases of primary open-angle glaucoma, the condition is a slow progressive one. Our glaucoma specific assessment will detect subtle changes in retinal nerve fibre health (usually 4-5 years before a standard NHS sight test). Since Covid 19, we have been seeing many patients who have had long delays in their hospital glaucoma appointments.
Our glaucoma monitoring scheme is suitable for patients with glaucoma or those at risk (example; family history of glaucoma or a history of eye trauma).
The highest level of patient care and clinical assessment include:
- 60-minute appointment.
- Covid safe setting & PPE worn by professional staff.
- Experienced practitioners.
- Rexxam Auto-Refraction (Japan) provides a quick and accurate measurement of your spectacle prescription.
- Optomap (California) for retinal screening for haemorrhaging with social distancing.
- Topcon Tomography (Japan), like ultrasound but uses light to provide a cross-sectional scan of the optic nerve head.
- Slit lamp microscopy (Japan) is used to assess anterior eye angles.
- Henson 9000 visual field assessment.
- A paper or digital copy of your prescription will be issued.
- Discussion on current ocular pressures, optic nerve status and visual field plot.
- Referral/report to your NHS consultant if required.
The glaucoma monitoring scheme is provided as part of our Gold Plan membership. For patient not subscribed to our care plan, the current pay-as-you-go professional fee of £119 will be charged.
