The Stellest lens is Essilor’s first and only lens designed to slow down short-sightedness in children. Clinical studies in China have shown reduction in myopia (short-sightedness) progression by 67% on average compared to a standard spectacle lens, when worn 12 hours a day.
With increasing short-sightedness across the world, it is estimated that half the population of the world will be short-sighted by 2050. Moderate to high degrees of short-sightedness increase the risks of ocular complications in later life.
The lens works by offering sharp vision, focusing light onto the retina, through the central zone and uses H.A.L.T (Highly Aspheric Lenslet Target) technology in the peripheral zone, a constellation of 1021 lenslets spread over 11 rings, to create a volume of signal that slows down the elongation of the eye.
